Ele Carpenter and Charlotte Frost are interested in online practice
based research as a form of critical art practice.
Charlotte Frost will discuss artistic research strategies using the
decentralised network of the world wide web, moving from the net as a
research tool to a space is which new work can be produced. A key
example of this potential is ‘Visitor Studio’ by Furtherfield.
Charlotte will also be able to offer advice about the quagmire of
online academic publishing.
Ele Carpenter will introduce her Open Source Embroidery project as an
example of a social online and offline participatory project. She is
currently facilitating a distributed embroidery called the ‘Embroidered Digital Commons’ to close read and stitch a text by the Raqs Media Collective. This work draws on the intertwined histories of computing and textiles to facilitate a discursive space for making.
